ABOUT ME

Tom Leinbach

“In six months you’ll be climbing the walls!”

That’s what one church member told me shortly after I announced my retirement after 28 years of ordained ministry. Knowing how unlikely this was, I nonetheless thought it might be a good, lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek title for my blog.

Having observed, studied, and struggled with the increasingly curious relationship between Christian faith and the wider culture, I intend to explore those areas where they diverge and intersect.

I currently live happily with my wife on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, having served churches in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and my home state of Connecticut, all within the United Church of Christ. I hold two master’s degrees from Yale Divinity School.

Over the years I’ve come to the somewhat surprising conclusion that Christianity is but “a well-known stranger,” familiar in its cadence but often wholly misunderstood. Amid the many swirling philosophies and ideas that shape life here on earth, wittingly or unwittingly, it remains for me its most accurate and life-giving perspective.

[In case you’re interested, or a glutton for punishment, the first few blog entries, starting in January 2018, are more or less autobiographical.]
